German Assessment

Part of the mission of Brigham Young University is to “provide a period of intensive learning in a stimulating setting where a commitment to excellence is expected, and the full realization of human potential is pursued.” With that in mind, the GERM 440R portfolio assignment allows you to articulate a few of the most valued lessons and experiences you have acquired during your German studies, and to submit a sample of your work demonstrating your commitment to excellence.

To complete the portfolio assignment, do the following three things:

1. Upload a seminar paper

Upload a seminar paper that you think represents your best work. This is a term paper written for GERM 340, 440R, 450, 460, 470R or 497R. You may upload by by clicking “Paper Submission” in the menu at the top of this page.

2. Upload a reflection paper

Respond to the following questions, and then upload your document using the “Paper Submission” link in the menu at the top of this page: What courses and other experiences (study abroad, internship, German House, German Club, German Choir, research assistantship, student instructor position, etc.) in the BYU German program have had an impact on you? What ideas and insights gained from your experience in our program will still be with you in 10 years? Finally, what suggestions do you have for ways we could strengthen our German program for future students?
